Of mice and Men and Freak the Mighty comparison
In the book of mice and men by John Steinbeck and the movie “Mighty” based off the book freak the mighty by Rodman Fhillmicle, the relationship of George and Lennie is quite similar to Max and Kevins relationship. Despite all the differences in the Book and Movie I believe that the book and movie show us that people will band together when society is against them because they need the companionship to survive. Even if people may say different to this. There are many things to compare and contrast between the book and movie such as the relationship of George and Lennie vs. Max and Kevins. Another example is how the authors foreshadow the deaths of Lennie and Kevin.
In comparison to the relationship to both duos, they both had it when the smaller smarter person was leading the more stupid larger person around. Also another comparison to the book and movie is that not only do one of the main characters die and the author foreshadow their deaths but in both novel and film society is the main antagonist as it is always against them, treating them differently because of something out of their control.
However in contrast to their relationships, while in the Film “Mighty” Max and Kevins relationship was more symbiotic because Kevins body did not work very well and Max was slow when it came to learning as it had been stated that he failed 7th grade twice. In the book of Mice and Men George and Lennies relationship was still symbiotic but they didnt help each other as George was more like Lennies caretaker and George needed the companionship to survive in that world where no one gave a second glance at them and they didnt give a second glance at anyone but to each other and themselves. Another thing to that is different in the novel and film is the fact that Kevins illness is what caused his death and that Lennies illness is what lead to the cause of his death. Also the fact that the time and setting in the story and movie were completely different. One last thing that I can contrast between the two, is how the author foreshadowed their deaths, With Lennie it was that he liked to touch soft things and with Kevin and that his illness was said outright as an indication that he was going to die.
In conclusion, the bestselling book by John Steinbeck and the movie that was based of the book Freak the Mighty by Rodman Fhillmicle have many similarities and differences in them. As in both book and movie society is against the Main characters, One of the characters is mentally slow, one of the main characters dies in the end, and one the characters is slow and the other is large. These are both great selling classics for young adults and youths of America to read and teach them a good lesson.
