The man is a static character, because he does not change throughout the story. In the beginning of the story the Man believed it was 50 below zero and not any colder. Later in the story it explains how the man had been ignorant of the cold with all his ancestry, right after the man had taken out the fire, the book states how the man had been ignorant of the cold along with his relatives while the dog was not ignorant of the cold the book states about the man “possibly all of the generations of his ancestry had been ignorant of cold, of real cold, of cold one hundred and seven degrees below freezing point.”(page 524) We know if all of his ancestry were ignorant of the cold, it was in his genes so therefor he was ignorant of the cold the whole storyThe man also explained how “he was safe” in the beginning of the story, when he was in fact safe, later in the story when he was freezing and loosening all his blood it still said “but he was safe” because he thought the fire would save him on page 525 This man is a static character because no matter what happened to him it still said but he was safe, even when he wasnt safe. This was because of the over confidence which the man in the story bared. The man also did not put in much thought before acting. Later the book explains “As it came within reaching distance, the man lost his control”.
