A bowling team could consist of 3-5 people. They could all be a family, friends or you could join a team that consists of nobody you know because you joined the league late or youre a rookie and decide to join a bowling team. Whoever your teammates are, a bowling team is still a community. A community accepts you for who you are and provides a sense of stability. A bowling team is definitely a community because everyone around you accepts you for who you are and it also provides a sense of stability.
A bowling team is a community because it “accepts people for whom they are” (stated in Remix, page 103). First, you could be any skill level and the team and people around you will applaud your bowling shot and the way you bowl. Also, people accept you for your interest in the sport because you all have the sport/hobby in common and you can talk about why you like it. Finally, you could be handicapped or special ed and your teammates wont look at you any different because youre a bowler. Every bowling team is a community because each person accepts each other for who they are.
A bowling team has “a sense of stability” which makes it a community (stated in Remix, page 97). First, each team may have their own tradition on how they set each players position. They could be the lead off bowler or the anchor. This mainly depends on the skill level of each bowler. Next, bowlers have their own dance or noise when they get a strike. This is also a tradition because for some, strikes dont come too often and a nice dance move can provide a sense of stability for the behavior of the person doing the move. Lastly, teams may have their own high five celebration, but they cant be too rude because that wouldnt be allowed in the tournament or league they are bowling in. Bowling teams are definitely a community because they provide certain traditions and behaviors.
Some may disagree with my claim, arguing that a bowling team isnt a community because they dont meet frequently enough to be a community. Also, some may say, a community cant meet for 3 hours a week and be a community because that isnt long enough to provide a sense of stability or acceptance. Finally, some may say a bowling team isnt a community because they go to the same Bowling Alley to bowl.
However, their claim is illogical because a bowling team can meet at any time they want so they could hang out together and still be accepted for whom they are. Also, bowling teams meet longer than 3 hours a week because some tournaments could take up to 7 hours and leagues can take up to 5 hours and go for 3-4 times a week. Finally, a bowling team moves from Bowling Alley to Bowling Alley every single time they bowl so their averages wont be too high and they are able to meet different people at different Bowling Alleys.
