Cancer starts when cells begin to grow out of control. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer, and can spread to other areas of the body. Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that forms in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. Of all cancers breast cancer breast cancer is the most common among women but men can get it, too. Women who have had breast cancer are likely to develop cancer on the other breast.
There are certain established risk factors that are associated with breast cancer. Until today, many people, even doctors believe that cancer has to do with heredity. A woman whose relatives have been affected by this cancer is two to three times more likely to develop the disease. Although women over 50 are more likely to get the disease than younger women records nowadays shows that even younger women gets this disease. Women who had early menstruation before age 12, those who menopause later 3after the age of 55, those who never had children and those who had their first child after the age of 40 have a higher risk of developing breast cancer. Breast Cancer can also be caused by many other factors such as Modern Medicine Risk, Dietary and Environmental risks and Lifestyle Risks. Diet high in animal fat contaminated with undisclosed carcinogens and estrogenic chemicals, exposure in the home to household chemicals or pollution from neighboring chemical plants and hazardous waste sites and a workplace that is expose to a wide range of carcinogens can also cause risk for breast cancer. In an effort to produce more and cheaper food, the agrichemical industries have developed toxic pesticide to protect crops and sex growth hormones to fatten animals for slaughter without taking into consideration its long term effect to humans. Our lifestyle can also cause us to develop this disease. With the aid of technologies our life have become ever faster, more efficient and comfortable thus keeping more and more of us from getting the exercise we need to stay healthy. Too much consumption of alcohol and early and excessive use of tobacco can lead us not only to cancer but to many serious health problems. 4Symptoms The earliest symptoms of breast cancer would be a lump or thickening in the breast or under the arm. During the early stage this lump may move freely beneath the skin when it is touched and push by a finger. In a more advance stage the lump can no longer be move and may be painful. A discharge in the nipple may occur. Every human especially women should be aware of their body, by doing so they may feel certain changes which may help them in early detection of serious diseases such as breast cancer. Self -examinations are the most commonly used tests used for detecting breast cancer among women today. The self-exam is a simple exam that women can perform on their own with a few simple steps.
