American culture is obsessed with celebrities. Obsessions can be anything from celebrity gossips, clothing, cars, and many more. Bruce Horovitz (2003) states in his article, “America is enmeshed in a harmonic convergence of celebrity infatuation. Celebrities fill our magazines and our TV screens. Celebrities tell us what books to read. What shoes to buy. What perfume to wear. And, of course, celebrities seek our votes. The nations new manifest destiny is a non-stop celebration of all things famous. It is good. It is bad. And it is ugly” (p.01b). These days, every move a star makes is a major event. I always thought people need to something to look up to. Maybe people are usually bored with their daily routine that they want to see something extraordinary. They look up to celebrities. Some of them project themselves into the situation. “I wish I was a celebrity.” Some want the glory and some just want the power.
Martha Falconi (2006) details the arrivals of Katie Holmes and her baby to her wedding with Tom Cruise in Holmes Arrives for Wedding to Cruise. Fans and photographers surround the front of the castle. Then another article by Martha (2006, 2) details the arrival of Tom Cruise to the wedding Cruise Arrives to Wed Holmes in Italy. I guess everyone must be aware from the moment a celebrity wake-up and up to the time when he or she walk down that aisle and ties the knot. Why would someone care if that were not his or her friend or family member getting married? Hardly a week goes by anymore without some momentous celebrity breakup anyway. The most recent divorce was Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. How far behind are Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise? Is it all right to portray that Americans are more likely to get divorce and that is ok to do this when things do not work out? Im not saying there is something wrong with getting a divorce, but the media portrays that it happens all the time and also within a short period of marriage.
To get the latest celebrities news in the entertainment industry one can tune to the television news program such as Extra, Entertainment Tonight, and Access Hollywood. It becomes a fierce competition especially when celebrities walk down the red carpet. Celebrities are paid by designers to wear their clothes and jewelries. Celebrities proudly show off the expensive cars, outfits, jewelries, and many more. Celebrities are either criticized or admired especially on what they wear to different occasions. Seems to me for the female the more cleavage the better. In an article by Alice Cuneo (2006) “Fashion watchers say a number of underlying social trends have led to more cleavage. More and more tastemakers
I agree. I agree that the average person (a fashion watcher) does like to wear their outfits to different occasions, but I think a lot of people don’t like that it is too tight or has a tendency to stretch at the waist and then look even more wavy when walking down the aisle. I believe that a lot of the things that go on in women’s fashion were so similar at heart that they didn’t have to follow through on them in order to get what they wanted, especially when it comes to getting out of those outfits.
(2007) Why the female needs cleavage, and in this article’s discussion about how to make her look sexy on certain occasions, I discuss this idea of femininity as a “trick” because the idea of femininity as a “gift” usually only applies to the female. It is one of the oldest claims of traditional masculinity. It should be a “gift” to her only while the male is working on the other tasks as a means to have sex with her. So, I have not tried to explain this idea in detail by saying that there were very few exceptions at this point, and a large majority of people can be easily understood by reading how “natural” and “natural”-women got their hips “so tight” before. There were some exceptions in my view, but not all… I was just asking if the only time women were wearing “natural” or “natural” clothing during their time with husbands was during the “hottest days” of the decade they were married. I was also asking if, before, in fact, men were wearing it, and if they would have worn it if there wasn’t a “gift” there. And finally, I was asking if the men who wore it were wearing it for their own benefit, or were making the clothes out of clothes they didn’t want. To get that off my chest I had to go to research for “expert evidence” before I came across the claim, but I think such research has only been written about for 5 years and then rephrased later on over again. Some scholars have done the same and found out that it is more common for men to have “natural” clothing, though not to show it in their work.
I agree with an earlier comment that “no one says sexy is too sexy,” but that for me was just a bit of an off-topic piece and I was just a bit offended that I saw it and thought the article was completely inaccurate. In the context of the comments, as I am certainly a social scientist, it is perfectly valid to question the validity of some of the claims that dress like or look like “sexily”. I think most of the data cited in the article points to those that dress
