ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY EXXONMOBIL:
1989 intoxicated captain of Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons of oil into Alaskan waters
1997 Raymond (CEO) rejected scientific case of global warming and calls renewable energy “a complete waste of money”
2001 ExxonMobil accepts protection from Indonesian troops accused of violence against local villagers.
It funded the research groups that denied global warming.
STEPS TAKEN TO SOLVE THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:
Finally EXXON MOBIL accepted that the world is warming.
It funds worldwide programs to benefit education, communities, health, nature and the arts.
It has a campaign of $13 million to save the worlds tigers from extinction.
2003 reported losing less than 1 teaspoon/million gallons after the oil spill case.
THE QUESTIONS THAT ARISES FROM THE CASE ARE:
The role of business in society?
Business is the cornerstone of prosperity in society: companies create the resources that permit social development and welfare. Companies, through their commercial operations, actively contribute to progress in society. And improve the society.
IMPACT OF EXXON MOBIL ON THE SOCIETY:
Its statements about the world is not heating misleaded the society.
Being an oil company it must have caused lot of damages to the society.
FUTURE IMPLICATIONS:
Be more responsible towards the society
Profit should not be their only motive.
