Integrity
Every single one of us has decisions to make daily that, in some way or another, impact our daily lives. Of course some are of more significance than others, none-the-less, choices have to be made every day. Choosing what to wear may not have a great impact on your daily life; it does however show people your sense of style. Choosing whether to register as democrat or a republican also may my not impact your life a great deal, however it does show people, to some extent, your political point of view. It is the choices we make that construct our character. It gives a unique, distinctive, identity to everyone of us. It is through the decisions making process that reveals our level of trustworthiness, honesty, morality, ethics, and integrity. Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles and is of most importance in ones character. However we must consider that we all as a whole know the faint line between right and wrong. Although only imaginary, we must presume we could all distinguish between either side of this fine line. Lying, cheating, stealing, prejudice, deception, is all around us and is issues we will confront some time or another. It is because our upbringing, morality, and integrity that we decide which path we want to take. Integrity is a quality that one looks for in a friend; it is a quality that one looks for in an employee; and most it is a quality that one looks for in a leader.
A “friend” is someone you trust. It is a person whom one knows well and whom one has a bond with. It is a person who understands your point of view and is typically on your side. You presume that a friend will never lie to you, at least not with intensions of hurting you. A friend is someone who you tell your problems to and whom you go to for advice. He or she is someone who you tell your secrets to and who you trust to keep them confidential. Someone you can go to for help and expect it without hesitation. If your friend looses his trustworthiness, his integrity is tainted. This makes it impossible to keep a healthy personal, even business relationship, with someone who you dont trust.
A business relationship is bounded by the same means of trustworthiness, morality and integrity. Applying for a job is a simple example. When applying for a job there is three specific areas that an employer uses to question your integrity. The first is by questioning if you have been convicted of any crime. The employer wants to see if you are a person of values and good upbringing. This is why it is harder for convicted felons to land a job, they are just not trustworthy. The second is by asking you to list a few personal references; by this they mean friends and family. Once again, they want to be able to talk the people who know you best and see if you are a person who is trustworthy, “a man of his word”. By signing the job application you are giving them your consent and your word that you are and will be able to perform any specific duties assign to you at the specific times required of you. In other words, you are promising them that you will be on time and ready to work according to the schedule provided to you; also that you will perform the specific tasks to
