Recently in class we viewed the film “Kids in Trouble.” The film showed clips of a troubled child named Cambia Carson, who was an extremely violent young child. Then, Cambias parents were interviewed and gave descriptions of young Cambias actions. Soon after, 4 child psychologists explained why children act this way, and ways that can help the child, such as a Wilderness camp which Cambia attended.
Overall I found this video to only be slighty helpful, and only geared towards parents. I fell this way for several reasons. First, the panel did not really go to much into specifics, such as certain early signs and ways to prevent it before it starts. I also found them to be slighty repentant. If you listen to to doctors when they received a question, it is as though they are saying the same thing, but wording it slighty different. From the parents side this video can prove very helpful, but for the troubled children watching with their parents, it does not seem to attempt to speak to them or reach out directly, which could prove to be very important.
Also, I would have liked it if they followed Cambias story a bit more. When they were discussing her story and her parents were telling about it, it seemed to jump from when she was very troubled till today when she is at the wilderness camp and is doing well. I know there had to be a point when she first got to the camp and rebeled and how they settled her and her peers down, and made them start working together. That is a very important step in this process. Overall however, the video was very good and can give parents a good heads up on what to do with a violent and troubled child.
