She who dwelt among untrodden ways
William Wordsworth
Who is the speaker? What kind of person is he/she? How do you know?
The speaker is the author and he appears to be a shy man and I can tell because he is watching this girl from afar not really making contact but still finds himself to what he believes is in love.
To whom is he/she speaking? What kind of person is the audience? How do you know?
The author is speaking to himself describing this girl and how he felt to himself and when she died he died inside as well but there are none that know this. I know this because of the diction the author uses the words are directed to no one but only about someone.
What is the occasion?
William Wordsworth is reflecting his feelings of a girl that is now deceased
What is the central purpose of the poem? State the central idea in a well-developed sentence.
The central idea of the poem is that William Wordsworth was watching a girl from afar and had strong feelings about her but because he never gained the courage to go up to her he never got to tell her how he felt before she died therefore crushing him as a person.
Discuss the imagery. Are there any patterns in it?
Imagery discussed within the poem would consist of “Fair as a star when only one is shining in the sky” meaning she was special and one of a kind where there were none like her and she is the only one for him.
Remember, diction (word choice) creates tone. Identify the tone of the poem, and explain how it is achieved though well-chosen diction.
The tone of the poem isnt really the same throughout it at first it is very caring and compassionate but at the end the tone has changed to a sad and eerie tone when she dies.
Locate any examples of irony. How is it used?
At the beginning it shows how the author loved her and cared about her immensely but then she dies and none of that matters because she is not there and she is the only one that it would have mattered to.
Criticize and evaluate the poem.
This poem was pretty strait forward without that many interpretive meanings and I liked this poem because I dont like interpretation, I like people to tell me what they mean instead of allowing me to come up with an interpretation that is completely wrong of how they feel or what they think.
