Abortion Case
Abortion
The Definition of abortion is “an operation or other procedure to terminate pregnancy before the fetus is viable.” If only the debate about abortion was as simple as the definition. The statement is neither right nor wrong, but left open for interpretation. Most controversial topics are made out to be black and white but have many shades of grey. Abortion is an example of that. The people who object to abortion claim that it is the murder of a helpless baby who has not yet had the chance of life. However, the debate opposite to it is just as earnest: it is a womans right to choose what happens to her body, and if she decides that she is not capable of bringing a child into the world, than she should not be forced into it. When does a womans right over her reproductive system become the governments business? Is abortion wrong or right? Are rape, incest, and potentially fatal illness exceptions for when abortion is okay? So many questions are raised by the debate, that we must look at both sides of the issue to better understand it in a general. It is the choice of the woman as it is her body in question and no one should be able to take that right away from her.
As with any topic, there are people who do not agree with abortion. These people are known as “pro-life advocates”, because they advocate the life of the baby over the womans right to choose what she wants to do with her body. Pro-life groups such as Human Life International (HLI), The Christian Coalition, and many others support the rights of a human life. There are many reasons why people who are pro-life do not support abortion. The main argument is that abortion is murdering an unsuspecting life, in the mothers decision to have an abortion. However, they also feel that abortion is a dangerous procedure, and puts the mother at risk as well as the fetus. Pro-life advocates feel that there are other options besides abortion. Adoption, for instance, is an alternative to abortion. Adoption would provide the baby with a warm and loving home. There are many people that are willing to take in children, like people that cant have children of their own. Pro-life advocates who are opposed to any and all killing would definitely support finding a home for a baby as opposed to aborting it. Many pro-life advocates feel like, you chose to have sex, and now you must face the consequences of your actions. There are many different aspects of pro-life that can be interpreted in many different ways.
The other side to the debate is pro-choice. A pro-choice advocate is someone who feels that the womans right to choose should come before anything, even a human life. The main argument of a “pro-choice” advocate is that a woman should have the right to choose what happens to her own body. They use the Roe vs. Wade case of 1973 to support their arguments. Roe vs.
