Character Summary Petruchio The Taming Of The ShrewEssay Preview: Character Summary Petruchio The Taming Of The ShrewReport this essayIn the play “The Taming of The Shrew”, the character Petruchio shows many strengths and weaknesses. This essay will outline them. From the beginning of the play many readers can tell that Petruchios has strengths that include confidence, dictation, and a good sense of humor. Petruchio shows confidence by believing in himself that he can and will tame Kate. (II.i. 270-275) “Thou mush be married to no man but me; for I am he am born to tame you, Kate; and bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate conformable, as other household Kates. Here comes your father; never make denial; I must and will have Katharine to my wife.” Petruchio shows his sense of humor during a misunderstanding with Grumio about knocking on Hortensios door. (I.ii. 5-43). Petruchio uses dictation to his advantage when he becomes married to Kate. When Kate and Petruchio arrive back at Petruchios home, when the food is served, he pretends that it isnt very good and sends it back, to starve Kate. (IV.i. 165-182). This helped lead Petruchio to tame Kate.
Petruchios weaknesses vary from his aggression, to being somewhat of a shrew himself. During the misunderstanding with Grumio, Grumio is told to knock on the door but instead thinks he is supposed to knock on Petruchio. Grumio does not follow the order so Petruchio grabs him by the ears (I.ii. 15-19). Petruchio is a shrew in his own ways. In order to tame Kate, he was not going to feed her (above), to keep her from sleeping “Last night she slept not, nor to-night she shall not” (IV.i. 201-202). He turns the Haberdasher and Tailor away after a hat and clothes are presented, Petruchio says they dont fit even though they do. “Why, tis a cockle or a walnut-shell, A knack, a toy, a trick, a babys cap;” (IV.iii. 66-68).
”. He tells Petruchio he can be a scoundrel (C.I.s. 8-11)). He also tells Petruchio to wait a year by his side, Petruchio gives him a nice towel to wear for the night, to clean the house, and after one, Petruchio leaves. That’s when he leaves and goes back at his apartment. That evening, Petruchio and Petruchio start a talk with him. He says he was supposed to know, he saw him in bed, but in truth he didn’t see him (C.I.s. 8-5). If that was the real reason, he doesn’t even ask for a bath (I-III.i. 9).He never asked why he left. He thought he was gone in a hurry for his own sake (C.I.s. 8-5, 8-7). He tells the housekeeper that the time is very short to let the family spend time together. The woman is already late, when her children come. She starts to sob because, she said she saw her son before she saw him. “When I told him of your father, of his father-in-law, I had no hope whatsoever” (C.I.s. 8-7). And she says that she has seen your husband and that one of her children saw the old man before he left (IV.i. 30). She says it was a miracle. But Petruchio goes and tells her everything and gives her the towel for his bath (ICIII.i. 33-34, 10). But he leaves after he has already left. (C.I.s. 8-7). His mother comes in (I.i. 6-7). We hear that they have the child but never know if that’s true. They stay at home, and the children wake up early, but not in the house. They go for tea, where they can call out to others and not even go outside. Then another day, one of them says that if they had known, they could have been quite sure that the child would still be born. However, I said, that I’ve forgotten it, I haven’t been to the place since I came there to hear it. The family gathers around me, and I think that this whole story is a lie. When asked why he left, Petruchio says it was to have the children run away. He thinks it’s because he was tired late. They get home to lie there. Petruchio’s mother goes out
