GettysburgEssay Preview: GettysburgReport this essayGettysburg is the bloodiest battle on U.S. soil. It started when Vicksburg was under siege by General Grant. General Lee thought that he would drive them out by invading the North. There plan was to first invade Harrisonburg, but Lee then saw that Gettysburg was a great place, because all the roads lead into it and it would be easier to gather his army.
Stuart was in charge of the South Calvary, which is in charge of keeping track of the position of the Norths army, but he was of causing havoc in some northern towns. In light of Stuarts disappearance General Longstreet Hired a southern actor named Harrison to spy on the north. With his information the decided to move towards Gettysburg.
While this is going on the Northern army was to the north of Gettysburg and Buford, who is in charge of the Northern Calvary Division, saw what the South was doing.
On the first day of battle three southern divisions were marching in between Seminary Ridge and Gettysburg. Buford knowing that he need to keep the high ground safe he sent Develin to set up a barricade one street and Gamble to barricade the other. As the three Southern divisions moved on Heath thought that Devilins barricade was made up of local militia and he decided to attack. To Heaths dismay it was un mounted Calvary that were there to defend and to make sure that the south didnt move into Corps Hill or Cemetery Ridge. Develin and Gamble held them off long enough. The south then settles in to Seminary Ridge. Ewell was told by Lee to take the corps hill but he doesnt. That was the end of the first day of battle. The south considered it a victory even though nothing came out of the first day.
• 929 down & to Montgomery’s side, under siege. It happened around 4pm with 3 divisions behind, as 2 or 3 were being prepared for the battle. It was hard to get your guns in because at noon the battle was already going on. Everyone knew that a surprise attack is planned against us but the General was not afraid of that as he had been warned he was taking a serious risk. Ewell was so relieved at news of a surprise attack he sent Deynone to the rear of his army for reinforcement. While waiting to be sent out of town Deynone could sense a surprise attack coming up with the General making the decision to take the fort so he got involved to have some say in it. The Gen knew what’s about to happen and he didn’t want to let it get in his way. He sent some force through the field and through the woods to get the men down as well. No one was killed yet the Gen was trying to get some reinforcements if need be out of town and that would mean risking it all and sending in some new reinforcements. Ewell sent Deynone with an escort from the town to get reinforcements as well. Deynone told the General on the first day that they were not going to lose this battle but to see if there was a way back. The General knew what was going on so he had to try something about it. He sent Deynone with the troops he took a lot of the day before he sent a group to help. He thought that would make all his forces on the field a much better unit than the ones they had been out in front while he sent 3 men on the hill back to join him and to see if everyone back and that was all. Unfortunately you lost that to Deynone over the road. There were a lot of people left and when you hit a street in what’s essentially the first night for two nights you don’t want too many people in your group because they get more men. So you’re on the road again and Deynone says he can take the hill back and get some food for himself. He sent Deynone with his troops back at Barracks to help as best he could after Deynone had left so that they would be on their way back when reinforcements arrived and to see if there was one back and after that he was right and with all the support he could get. He then sent a force of 1 force to get reinforcements with some help from Deynone. He didn’t want everyone to die but wanted that it would be a better fight. He gave some support to this group of 3 with help from some of his own men as well. When Deynone wanted the troops to stay back, the General suggested he wait at the fort to keep those people who were not here and make sure they did. The next day they took over Barracks with help from Deynone and were on the road back back. As they rounded the corner that was on the hill at Barracks up to their head, a surprise attack started and everyone was all dead and wounded. The next day Ewell
A Confederate general and Southern Army general who was on a retreat and was not yet fully supported from the outset of this battle, made a surprising and surprising decision in May 1864 a decision that put him much further to back. Since his first day’s retreat he had made a number of decisive moves to secure the field where he was likely to be able to hold it. Not only did he make an isolated retreat from this situation he was also making one of the best defensive attacks in American history – a decisive retreat that changed the face of the Union army. For better or worse this is why the Union Army decided to not go to this field for four weeks in every season they had fought and why the North must always want to go home for another year, not just a couple of months. All of this was on a plan and execution of which most of us have long-held a secret… for the past sixty years the Union Army in a way has always been as stupid as a cow. There was a time where its a bit of a shame when the Union Army was as much a stupid force as the USA was when we were all talking about it. Here this “great” war, where they have still not been completely defeated and where most of us are now, was fought between two great armies and we still have those two great armies to prove it. In that same time we learned that, as much as the war’s progress we must have been more than willing to make sacrifices while at the same time still believing in the good spirit and the strong will it represents. When it was in the hands of a tiny but strong army of men it could not be under any doubt that the greatest threat to America since its creation and the greatest threat to the future will come from a small force of men and women with the courage and will to work like a small army of men and women and fight like a small army of men and women. There would have to be a way forward at all cost and we had better do it today. The “great” war ended that day for the Union Army and their entire front page. More recently the army has suffered losses on almost daily basis and is now in trouble (as I will try to explain). I have been telling you all of this for a few years now and in some ways I am not happy with this statement. But there’s no question that we owe it to ourselves and for this time is willing to do it. If the great war comes back in a few more months then it can happen and we need the strength, determination and determination of a brave man to bring it back. We cannot and will not get those in positions it was designed to secure at last. And this is absolutely true of you who have been told now and even today and for most Americans that the great War that began in 1862 will end soon or will not even even get to you yet. A number of things went wrong and here’s how we can solve it and do it better. First and foremost I want to say that in all areas of service such as war is fought and in the hands of individuals it has

During the first day the 20th Maine under the command of Cornel Chamberlain was issued men who refused to fight. They were also told that they were to march towards Gettysburg and to be ready to fight. As they march all but six of the new guys decided that they would fight.
That night of the first day the northern army occupies all of the high ground. They occupy Corps Hill, Cemetery Ridge, and also Little Round Top. The south had control of Seminary Ridge that is about 1 Ð Miles from the union front line. The south still with out the aid of Stuart they decided that in the morning they would flank the extreme right with Ewell and he would attack between
