The old Negro elite were wealthy, and had their own property, not only did they own their own property but they also owned slaves. They were very intellectual and obtained their success through hard work and devotion. The lifestyle of a free black was different and benefited.

The new Negro elites were similar to the old Negro elite. The negro elite had things such as wealth, prosperity, education, good jobs and high status. The color of their skins also mattered greatly. They were the wealthiest African Americans after the Slavery-era. Not all of them lived in the south, many lived in the country. They were less articulate and educated than the Old Elites. They were able to have many more opportunities and lived a good life.
