L In Charles Dickenss novel The Tale of Two Cities it is debated whether Charles Darnay or Sydney Carlton is more heroic. A heroic figure in any novel is a character that demonstrates determination, leadership, kindness, charity, and a great lack of selfishness. Charles Darnay and Sydney Carlton, bear many similarities; such as their looks, but they also have many differences; such as their levels of confidence. Charles Darnay and Sydney Carlton distinguish themselves in The Tale of Two Cities as heroic figures.
Charles Darnay and Sydney Carlton have varying attitudes concerning each other and have different backgrounds. Carlton is British whereas Darnay is of the French decent, though both live in SoHo, England. While Darnay is a well-groomed gentleman with hopes and aspirations, Carlton is an un-kept, drinker, who lacks respect, energy and a purpose. Darnay is a tutor in England and Carlton a lawyer in the shadow of another, ucie Manett, who later becomes Lucie Darnay, is a tender and affectionate loving person. She is a very virtuous woman who reaches out to all human beings in need of love. Most of all the people she meets immediately have respect for and are loyal to her. From the French Revolutionary war point of view, Lucie represents family and bonds between lovers. She is what people are truly fighting for, to defeat the antagonist, battle for what they believe in and then go home to their loving familiesLucie. Lucie also symbolizes peace, when being with the one you love or knowing that they are there its makes people more at ease, it makes war and life a lot more easier to go
