“I feel like a big faker because Ive been putting my life back together, and nobody knows. Its hard to sit in my bedroom and read like I always did. its even hard to talk to my brother on the phone. His tem finished third in the nation. Nobody told him we missed the game live because of me.” Pg. 100
Charlie: he isnt exactly what people would call a normal kid. He doest have very many friends, and is kind of a loner. Hes very smart and tends to spend most of his time reading. Most people see him as a loser, and his only real friend commit suicide. He acts strangely for no apparent reason but it is later revealed in the book.
Patrick: He becomes Charlies friend and introduces him to new people, activities, drugs, and Rocky Horror Picture Show. They become close, and Charlie doesnt mind that Patrick is gay. Charlie develops a crush on Patricks sister Sam.
Sam: Sam is Patricks sister and another new friend of Charlies. She is aware of Charlies crush on her but thinks its more innocent then anything else. She doesnt mind his crush on her, but she does tell him shes too old for him. She and Patrick show Charlie how things work between friends, and treat him like anyone else even though he is younger then them, and a little awkward.
Conflicts through out the story:
Charlie kisses same at a party even though he knows she has a boyfriend and he too has a girlfriend.
Charlie starts to see signs of his old condition coming back but he tries to ignore it and make it go away with out telling anyone what going on.
Sam is getting ready to go away for the summer for college and Charlie has a hard time dealing with it. He tries to act normal and like everythings ok but it not. He knows his conditions getting worse but still doesnt do anything. Then not being able to see Sam all summer before she goes to college makes everything worse.
