Settling for MediocrityAs a child, my parents would tell me:âYou can be anything you want once you grow up!âThese days, I find that not to be true.Reality has slapped me hard in the face-No longer can I be the President, a rockstar, or an astronaut. As a student, the education system tells me:âYou can succeed beyond what you can see; thereâs a big bright beautiful world out there for those who are willing to work for it!âThese days, it is a lot easier said than done.Everyone learns things in a different way, and they do not get that-
No longer can I be an all-Aâs student, have a social life, and get a healthy amount of sleep. As a person, society tells me:âYou cannot do that/wear that/be that/stand out!âThese days, I do not want to be just another face in the masses,Unbeknownst to what is really out there, beyond the conformity. You are frowned upon for even being the slightest bit different-No longer can I become my own person, be an individual, or think for myself without being judged. As a human, human nature tells me:âYou automatically have a longing to be accepted, to âfit inâ and not be lonely!â
