Child Abuse and Neglect Assessment Case StudyJosephine SimmonsBSHS/408 – CHILDHOOD ABUSE AND NEGLECTOct 9, 2017CHIFFONE SHELTONChild Abuse and Neglect Assessment Case StudyMy Wallace family is my case study, with the Wallace family they have four members consisting of the mother, Selina age 28, the boyfriend, Kenneth age 30, along with Selinas two female children Gloria ( 7) and Camilla(4) The couple, Kenneth and Selina are not married, but they do share a home for the last six years. With looking into the Wallace family and what kind of neglect that is present with the children range from mental abuse to physical abuse along with domestic violence. Mental abuse is from the children watching their mother getting beat by Kenneth on more than once, Kenneth has also been known to hit Gloria once, which he said he would never hit her again. Domestic violence is when Thomas beats Selina, both physical and mentally. Gloria has endured (child) abuse at the hands of her mothers boyfriend, which now Gloria is showing signs of abuse at school. Some of those signs are that Gloria is not on her target for her age group with learning, and Gloria is showing signs of neglect with Gloria not wanting to go home, along with Gloria will not interact with her peers.
Ms. Wallace is a 28-year-old white female who has suffered abuse at the hands of her live-in boyfriend. The abuse has been getting worse over the last year, Ms. Wallace has stated that Mr. Thomas has broken her leg and her arm while in a fit of rage. When Mr. Thomas goes into these fits of rages, the children are left unprotected because the mother is taking the blunt of the beatings. Ms. Wallace is now worried for the safely of not her herself, but her children as well. Ms. Wallace is in fear that if she leaves Mr. Thomas, he may hurt her or even worse end her life as well as her children.Ms. Wallace is in denial that Mr. Thomas has a problem with being abusive towards her and her children, and she also has stated that Mr. Thomas will not seek help for his abusive behavior. When asked, Mr. Thomas also denies having an abusive problem with his live-in girls friend and the two children. While speaking to Mr. Thomas about hitting Gloria, he states it was one time and that the child (Gloria) was not “his,” only Camilla belongs to “him.” Mr. Thomas also stated that when he “hit” Gloria it was only once and that the child (Gloria) forgave him. He states he has never hit Gloria again, but this he states that the child (Gloria) “had best not get in his way again.” Gloria saw Mr. Thomas hit her mother, so she started screaming at Kenneth to “Stop” beating her mother, and Mr. Thomas lashed out at Gloria.Mr. Thomas has a back ground of coming from an abusive home, Mr. Thomas states his mother was abused by his father many different times, and he was not “as bad as his father.” Due to his father being abusive to his mother, Mr. Thomas has stayed away from not only his mother but his other siblings. While Mr. Thomas brings home enough money to support the family, Mr. Thomas states he will do any odd jobs, so his girlfriend does not have to do any job outside of the home. While Mr. Thomas does work, he seems to have issues with the way the money is handled, and will not let Ms. Wallace pay the bills. Ms. Wallace has a trust fund, but she cannot get the funds until the children get of age, her biological mother states that if she needed to, she would take the children to raise. Ms. Wallace has a biological mother that is willing to help, but states “she has helped so many times just for Selina to run back to his and get beat worse.”
