I am drawn to child welfare because I am genuinely dedicated to the service of others, and more expressly to that of troubled or neglected youth. I believe in investing in the future of our children and see working in child welfare as an opportunity to support children and the family as a whole. The lack of healthy family structures evidenced in so many urban settings throughout the United States today both inspires and disturbs me. I want to ride the wave.
Another attraction I have about child welfare is the opportunity. I am not someone who takes the road of apathy; I want to be challenged, to be affected by people and to affect people. The one foothold I have is that I work well with this population and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our future generations is a priceless one.
I bring is simply my willingness to learn and be a part of a team. I am not ego driven; I genuinely enjoy learning, have a teachable spirit, and understand that it is a vital part of any training program to have individuals that want to learn the information being given to them.
In a world called Perfect, every child would have the love, protection, and support needed from their parents, but since we do not live in Perfect there are people set in place to serve as a guide in improving the well being of these families. Very generally, I understand the duties and responsibility of a public child welfare worker is to first and foremost assess for child safety, and through the eyes of the assessment, the worker can offer the appropriate services to the child and family.
