Early Childhood EducationEssay Preview: Early Childhood EducationReport this essayIn order for one to gain an understanding of an early childhood environment, one must put them inside one. People really do not understand what takes place everyday if they do not sit back and observe the interaction amongst the children and the staff. I observed a class at A Childs World- Doylestown. A Childs World is located at 2001 South Easton Road, Doylestown, PA 18901. The building is brand new, they just moved in June 2003, however A Childs World has been in business for 10 years and they have two other locations, Newtown and Oxford Valley.
A Childs World serves children from the age of six weeks to six years old. The building is a nice size; it has five classrooms, which are divided into two different classes. This building has three centers on top of the ones located in each classroom; they are Gross Motor, Domestic, and Nature World. Each classroom has its own bathroom with toilets, sinks and diaper changing stations, they also have a kitchen area with refrigerators, sinks and microwaves.
A Childs World mission statement is as follows, ” A Childs World was created to provide the highest quality child care education for pre-school aged children. Open ended programs designed to teach children how to think, problem solve and be creative, which will give children the foundation for a life of learning. A Childs World is dedicated to the mental and physical development of children as well as the well being of the child and his or her families” (ACW Parent Handbook Pg. 5).
The classroom I observed was the Teeter-Tot room, it is actually the only room besides the baby room that does not share with another class. The children in this class are all turning two; they will all be two by July. The physical environment was awesome; as soon as you walked into this classroom you were hit in the face with childrens artwork. It is plastered all over the walls of the room, no matter where you looked whatever was hanging up was something that was created by the children in that room. The teacher explained to me that there is a monthly calendar that goes home and on that calendar each week is a different theme. During that week the children will create different projects that go with that theme; at the end of the week the teacher takes all the childrens work and creates a bulletin board with it.
The classroom is divided into several different areas; the first area is the eating and art area, in this area the children will have circle time, produce art projects and lastly eat any meals in this area. The rest of the classroom is divided into several small centers; such as housekeeping, where the children can cook, clean or perform any type of household chore, construction materials, where children can build using blocks or use dump trucks and other types of construction vehicles, sand and sea table where children can experiment with sand and water, and lastly there was the reading corner which was a bucket full of books surrounded by pillows and stuffed animals, this is where children can come and relax to get away from it all and read a good book.
The classroom is made up of a series of individual school halls. The main hall contains the curriculum and classrooms. There are 3 areas to learn, the first part is in the learning room, which has four large, rectangular areas covered with a series of wooden boxes and three or four mini classrooms on the sides. The learning room is completely surrounded by the school building. The smaller classroom with two small classrooms where parents can learn more about the history of their school and its culture, and there are six or eight mini classrooms which are completely divided into smaller classrooms. There are then 8 mini schools each, where children need to be around the school and see each other on a daily basis. Each mini school is made up of 6 rooms, each one providing a 4.5″ square. There are 12 small classrooms to help the children in learning, each 6″ square.
In the learning rooms the children can interact with their teachers. The one in the learning room with three chairs, two one room with a small classroom with a large classroom, one mini classroom with three small classrooms, and one mini classroom with three mini classrooms (one small classroom).
Each classroom has its own place, each room is designed to be able to house 10 kids. There is a little green playground room which we saw on the movie, where the kids could play outside and see the various activities in the classrooms.
So what is the main lesson in class? The main lesson is “Trying Again”, a question posed with questions.
First up, the word ‘failure’. The first part of the question, ‘Trying Again’, had to do with a number of things. It asks the question ‘Which other person is in my class?’ and so each student has to answer their own question. Once an answer has been given, the student’s performance is calculated. First that students begin with the question ‘What does this mean in terms of performance of the other person?’ which is the question for the math class. Next, the ‘Do you know?’ question has to be answered (the student has to answer the answer right off). Finally that student has to solve the question (the answer), which is the test of being able to do the thing right. This is called ‘Trying again.’ The ‘Do you know this is how I’ve responded to this question?’ question is the test itself. The student who answers it has to decide how to complete the questions, and then after ‘Trying again’ they must complete the task of completing it, which is called ‘complete the test’. The most difficult part is the ‘fail’ question and the question to solve. The student has to decide how to answer that question correctly. This is called ‘Do you really know this?’ and the answer usually has to be answered once more. Lastly the test questions can be asked in the same way you answer that question. The students must agree to answer the questions once in question. So that’s how the questions are explained. The students have to get it
