Searching for God
God is not a man and man is not God. How then can a man also be God ? It truly is a story which will take eternity to understand, yet we have seen enlightened to the extend by this God man called Christ Jesus Himself. “But I know him: for I am from him and he hath sent me.” (John 7:29)Thus We have a basis from which to understand this person in human form who is claiming to not only know God, but is of Him and sent by Him. A good place to start learning is from what we can see right in front of us. Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit, not by human being. Who could do this, but God ? Jesus Christ was born in a manger and lived his childhood life “increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52). Many texts in the Bible support the humanity of Jesus Christ. He grew weary with his journey and took rest at a well and requested a drink. He also felt emotion and “wept” when he heard the news of his friend Lazarus death ( John 4:6-7 and 11:35). This man Jesus walked, talked, socialized, ate, had emotions, rested, slept, drank, while he was here on earth. He did exactly the same things each of us does.Jesus deity comes through on many occasions. The first public knowledge of this was at His baptism “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” ( Matthew 3:17). Being baptized by John revealed the God character in Jesus. The incarnation of Jesus is utterly amazing. The incarnation shows us how fallen man is and was and why God needed to do this to save man. After all are not we really like Thomas the doubter? We need to see to believe?Throughout his ministry he cured diseases, raised the deaths, healed the sick and forgave sinners. Who could do that, but God ? At times we are in danger of misrepresenting Jesus Christ. By overemphasizing His deity we lose sight of His humanity and the ability of sympathized with our human weakness. If we overemphasize the humanity of Jesus Christ we then deny his authority as God and the power of His supreme sacrifice. This brings us back to the unchanging constant nature of God in the union of God and man.
