The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon is a story about a boy named Christopher John Francis Boone. Christopher suffers with Aspergers Syndrome which is a high-functioning form of autism. While reading the book, the reader experiences the world through the eyes of a person with a disability. When Christopher finds that his neighbors dog, Wellington, is murdered, he opts to catch the killer. While doing so, Christopher runs into many conflicts involving his personality, past, and lack of trust in his family. G Ð k
For my project, I decided to make a combination of a diorama and a 3D collage, or “Book in a Basket”. Inside the basket are objects that represent and are symbolic of Christophers character. The film represents Christophers unique mind. He compares his memory to film by saying “My memory is like a film.” “And when people ask me to remember something I can simply press Rewind and Fast Forward and Pause like on a video recorderД “If someone says to me, ÐChristopher, tell me what your mother was like, I can Rewind to lots of different scenes and say what she was like in those scenes.” (p.76). Christopher is very gifted at mathematics. He gets an A grade in A Level math. Christopher knows all the prime numbers up to 7,057. His ability in math is referred to by the playing cards with the prime numbers, 2, 3, and 7, and the multiplication flash cards. He also knows all the countries in the world and their capitals.
Christopher loves animals, especially his pet rat, Toby. This love for animals is signified by the toy rat, Toby, the dog bones, and the patch with animals pictured on it. His favorite book is The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which is pictured in the basket. He also loves science and has a fascination with the Apollo space missions. Christopher really enjoys the computer and did the Expert Version of Minesweeper in 99 seconds. Christophers favorite color is red. He has a superstition that when he sees four
