“I am a Jehovah’s Witness. I believe in Jesus Christ Christ. I love the Lord and feel a strong connection with Him. I’m so happy that my dad and the elders of Jackson Street are going to come for me in a few weeks because we have never been to Jackson Street. It was a great experience to have a meeting with them and to know what type of church they are. The church had a large African American group and had very diverse and charismatic leadership. There was an amazing history there as well as great leadership and spiritual and healing. And all these things in the same place and not coming together for a short period of time was beautiful. I’m glad that there is hope for those in the community that I knew in my early church. It’s been a great experience growing up as they have become more involved, their lives have benefited from the growth over the years and I have a great sense of security that even though the church is small and the group size only a few people and my dad is only 13, I was always happy and connected to them and very grateful to have them come for me like there was before. I was glad that the church’s own ministry was able to reach out to all of their members throughout both parties. My brothers and sisters in church and many friends and relatives have come to see me and they believe in a God who knows that I can live and serve in an age that’s different and where everyone has a unique spirituality and spiritual life. I hope this can be a catalyst for my church to have a different mission to a smaller, more accepting area and I hope to be able to come there and contribute to their ministry if they have a way of doing so. ”

“I don’t want to say I agree with these beliefs (though I did be shocked at how many people responded). I have a long tradition of social work and many of these same social justice issues (I’ve been in counseling for many years) had much more impact on my church. My dad is active and supportive but he isn’t in the business of doing service for the community. He also isn’t a person I love to come to church with, just for the experience, or for the money. As a church elder, he really isn’t about his faith anymore. He wants to help people in their spiritual journey. He was never a person who felt connected to a community, just someone who was willing to put their own personal and spiritual skills on the line when it came to their church. He knows a lot about the spiritual work involved in the healing process but there are no plans on making church money for him by doing more work because of his beliefs. I think having a better relationship with my dad and pastor would make things easier for me; I would be able to help his church and also share my knowledge about their healing process. His ability to find and teach the healing process is what really kept me from going to church. My dad didn’t seem too interested in the healing process because he wasn’t interested in that. And just sitting on his porch listening to it was a different experience. I think that in all this, I have also shown respect to his pastor and their teachings and I have found them to be really helpful.”
