What are the civil liberties and civil rights afforded immigrants to the United States, both legal and illegal? How have these liberties and rights evolved overtime?

While it is true that this country declare in its Fourteenth Amendment that no state “deny any person equal protection of the laws,” (The Origins and the Limits of American Rights by Jay A. Sigler) it does not protect all the population as a whole. We are faced with the same ongoing problems the had always left individuals of minority groups(immigrants legal and illegal) out of the civil liberties and rights. America been the country of opportunities, immigrants come here because in one way or another America in their eyes has the means for a better life for them and their love ones.

Of course, many will probably disagree with this assertion that minority groups are been left out of civil liberties then what explains the many differences that are in debate regarding immigration issues at this point? Over the course of time the rights to a certain extend have and to this time do not provide equal opportunity to every single human who works and resides in the United States. In “The Origins and the Limits of the United States if American Rights, by Sigler reports that “one explanation for unequal conditions is the different experiences of various immigrant groups in America.” But why base it on “experiences” America is a diverse country it shouldnt discriminate. In the “Human Rights in Twentieth-Century United States” an article by Michael H Reggio makes a true point. Reggio states that “although the expression “human rights” is fairly recent, the concepts of human rights are not. We find their roots in ancient times, especially in most of the worlds religions, which express the concept of individual worth and dignity. The modern concepts of the human rights grew most directly out of the natural rights and natural law theories of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries” Every human should be treated equal ,not based on the place of birth that will give us certain rights but because everyone deserves respect.

In a recent article in The New York Times Upfront magazine shows how the civil rights have been shaping up. Unfinished Business by Shaila Dewan talks about the early times of the civil rights movement
