Introduction
Managing and coordinating an event can be a great experience. Weather it is for a family function, corporate event, wedding and other great functions. Not only do you have to have everything organised, but youll have to be a quick thinker if disaster strikes. This essay will explore the management functions planning, Organising, Leading and controlling. As well as the tasks associated with these functions that needs to be performed to plan and manage an event. Planning
One important component of management functions is planning. A successful event will have a clear plan. The plan clarifies to all people working in the event what the vision is for the event and what is required of all whom are participating in the event.
Depending on the size of the event it is important to have a committee.
When planning an event it is highly useful to identify who will be involved in the planning from the beginning. Once roles have been established it is important that everyone remains informed on the planning process. Useful questions may be asked during the planning process such as Who will be doing the planning, When will the event take place, What type of event is it going to be, Where will the event take place, Do we have a budget to work with, What are the costs of running the event and How will we Market the event to let people know about the event.
One tool for planning an event is to have an action. An action plan will tackle issues such as structure, staffing, monetary needs, funding, timetables and specific responsibilities.
Planning is the most important part of organising an event. Planning states clearly the roles and tasks of everyone involved.
Organising
While planning tells us what should be done, organizing tells us how it is to be done and who should do it. Organising is defining the roles and responsibilities to ensure that people organising the event have the correct skills in order to carry out the job. Organising an event also entails arranging the activities of the event in such away that they systematically contribute to the over all goal of the event. Organisational charts may be used to show the structure of how and what a successful event may look like by specifically listing the titles of managers positions and by connecting lines as to who is accountable for delegated duties.
Leading
