My Values, Beliefs, Clinical Gestalt with Individuals and Systems PaperShonda EdwardsPSY/322November 7, 2016Shelley CarterMy Values, Beliefs, Clinical Gestalt with Individuals and Systems Paper     From an early age until my adult years it has been my own belief and values that has moved me throughout my life, and what knowledge I have gained from other constructive influences. A few of my personal beliefs are derived from my culture and personal experiences within my behavior that has swayed me to think otherwise. Personally, I believe I am very open to other beliefs and values through different conditions of life. At any rate, I do place timed appreciation on what I deemed to be right.  However, this does not signify that it is set in stone in the mind of someone outside of myself. The rules and regulations do apply to everyone.  On the other hand, this must be recognized in the clearest way possible to assist the client.  I was raised by parents who believed in helping others, regardless of his or her issue. Whether it was feeding a homeless person, giving someone a ride to the supermarket, doctor appointment, to work or where he or she needed to go. So it is in me to be compassionate toward others no matter how I am treated. I am aware that with this profession I will be faced with many challenges such as discrimination against race, sexuality, homosexuality and religion, and others. I do not judge others because I do not want others judging me. In my family I learned how to accept people no matter the color of his or her skin color. To be kind to all and smile, even when I did not feel like it. To always turn the other cheek, obey your elders and have respect for myself. I believe I am a natural giver. I get pleasure from seeing other smile.

Thinking of my clients during an interview I am sure to encounter actions of some people that are hard to accept based on his or characteristics. The first thing come to mind, is to stay patient, listen, and observe carefully to the issues as he or she unfold them willingly.  I would want to make the atmosphere as comfortable as possible before every interview as this will provide a peaceful aura around the office. As for my clinical Gestalt and diagnosis, I have to remember that counselors have to be cautious that he or she do not define a condition established on our own thoughts alone. In fact, litany to a variety of conditions will from time to time be relentlessly based on my own norm and principles. Example: I work as a manager and on this particular occasion I had to make a decision’s about the fate of an employee’s position. After speaking to the young lady I was left to question myself about her work ethics. I assumed she was a lazy person just did not care about anything. Only to realize I had it all wrong. She had some type of illness and the medication she takes make seem out of it or peculiar at times, when in fact she was a good worker, just moved a lot slower than the other officers. This made me feel like a bad person and a shame. I made a vow to never underestimate, assume or judge again. This was because of a personal situation I had faced earlier and was the exact traumatizing situation happening to me at home. I had to ask to be remove from managing that site. It was too close to home for me to handle. I was forced to accept this employee and move on, or lose my job. In fact, I believe when a client’s situation becomes this over bearing to handle I believe that this should be turned over to the lead or upper management. This should be where my superiors make the final call as to keep that advisor on case he or she sees as overwhelming.
