A Clockwork Orange doesnt exactly follow the usual sort of plot “mold”. The book was written in three sections and I found that it was more like three short books combined into one, with each part having its own introduction, rising action, and climax. There was no one climax that was higher than the rest of the plot, there were three.
(1) When Alexs droogs betrayed him at the old womans health farm
(2) Alexs on-stage performance of his newfound morals (Not much action, but high tension, which is what matters)
(3) When Alex is trapped in the room hearing the ninth and attempts suicide
His reaction to Beethoven was explained perfectly well, as the poster obove me already said – it was played during his rehabilitation, and therefore it has the same effect on him that violence does. Keep in mind he has no moral aversion to violence – its a proven theory of conditioning (Have you heard of Ivan Pavlov?)
I can sort of see how the ending was unclear to you though. His dreams about doctors tinkering with his head werent dreams – they performed surgery to manually undo his conditioning. The flashcards proved that he was back to the way he was, and when he said he was cured, it meant that even if he may not be what society needs him tobe, hes a human being, no longer suppressed
by his own mind and body. Its sort of a complex theme – Maybe the chaplains line in the theatre after Alexs performance should have been a little more highlighted? (“He ceases to be a wrongdoer. He ceases to be a creature capable of moral choice”)
But I guess not everyone can like every movie, right? I hope I explained somethings that were keeping you from enjoying the movie on some level, though.

I believe some movies work for not following plot mold and some dont. This movie has no closure.

The book was written with a 21st chapter, but all the publishers Anthony Burgess went to said that it was too much of a happy ending for such a dark book, so they cut it out. That published edition is the one Kubrick wrote his screenplay from.
Even still, I didnt think it had no closure, I tjust saw it as an indeterminate ending. Not all stories need to be all wrapped up.
