COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY
Introduction
Cognitive psychology helps us understand people and their mental processes. The various mental processes are how people solve problems, how they think, how they perceive things, how they remember the various aspects in their lives and how they learn (Anderson et al 2009). Cognitive psychology is mainly a study of these mental processes and is aided by the use of scientific methods and thus incorporates the existence of internal mental states like ideas, knowledge and belief. Cognitive psychology is the topic of my study because it helps us understand people and their mental process and the impact of it to the environment and people around it (Sternberg et al., 2011).
Cognitive psychology helps many people in various different fields which in turn benefit them a lot understand and learn more about the mental processes. Teachers and education facilitators benefit in learning more how their students process information taught to them, how they learn from the information and how they remember that information (Lu et al., 2007). This has influenced the uses of tools like the curriculum and different levels of learning stages. Students also get to benefit from cognitive psychology with the information gathered and passed on to them (Anderson et al 2009). Information in behavioral neuroscience, artificial intelligence, psychophysics, thought process and linguistics is offered to the students who are interested in this and other related areas.
Cognitive psychology and its impact on people help us see and understand physiological brain states that are directly affected and influenced by the mental processes (Lu et al., 2007). With this various practical applications for cognitive research have been formulated such as memory improvement, increased decision making accuracy and the structuring of the educational curriculum to enhance learning and how student process the information.
Conclusion
Cognitive psychology given the dimensions of its various definitions shows it is incorporated in everything people will and are going to do. With the increased interested over the years such as attention, problem solving and memory has increased the interest of cognitive psychology to the various people in a number of different fields (Sternberg et al., 2011). With this understanding we see how it helps us understand people and their mental process and the impact of it to the environment and people around it. We see the various applications of cognitive psychology in the various fields and its impact on the various experts and people such as teachers, students and other various people relevant in its research such as doctors, therapists and even scientist. It helps all the relevant interested parties understand each other (Lu et al., 2007).
