The College Composition Experience
College composition is similar to many areas of life. One must learn from their mistakes and conversely take the appropriate action for future correction. The variables are differing, thus one must make a concerted effort to understand and become acquainted with the subject matter. “The poorest experience is rich enough for all the purposes of expressing thought.” Emerson is saying that even a bad experience is an experience, and remarkable. The convex of composition personally was the understanding of the absolute importance of communication.
Communication is the art of conveying an idea or principle to someone, or something else. Communication without an audience is therefore ineffective and typically a person gets locked away for disregarding this glacial principle. I have been guilty of not giving proper respect to another by not utilizing the inherent principles of communication. God has made it simple. In the book of proverbs it has been recorded that man has 2 ears and one mouth and to use them to that ratio. Many differing religions have a similar belief. As it is, we humans actually have 4 input devices and one output. Our eyes and ears are constantly aware and absorbing all that is around us. Our mouth is the only output device in this equation. We theoretically have the tools to absorb four times as much as we can spew. I am guilty of occasionally spewing four times as much as anyone could absorb. This leads to a break down in communication. How can effective communication transpire if there is only one party involved? This doesn’t make sense by the definition we have already set forth. I am guilty of this breakdown and my audience has only been acutely involved. This does everyone an injustice. Why speak to an audience unheard? Selfish pleasure, greed, ignorance, and insanity have all been to blame on not involving the audience in my rambling.
By this definition I am guilty. I have learned the importance of the audience to a writer, speaker, or plain old talker such as myself. Why would I talk to not be willing to give the respect to another
