Why CNC programming is the Career for Me
As a child, I was always acquiring bicycles, go-karts and motorcycles in different states of disrepair. I enjoyed seeing what types of contraptions I could create out of them. I also spent a lot of time playing with the breakthrough technology of the day, the Atari video gaming system and the Commodore 64.
As an adult, I am interested in pursuing a career as a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine programmer. I enjoy working with computers. I also very much enjoy manufacturing parts and putting together assemblies. Working as a CNC machine programmer would join those worlds perfectly for me.
I have based my college education on pursuing this goal. I hold a Certificate in Machine Tool Technology from Linn-Benton Community College and am currently enrolled in the CNC Machine program there. At the end of spring term 2008 I will have achieved enough credits to obtain an Associates of General Studies. I do, however, plan to take more computer-based classes in the future.
In addition to my education, I have approximately two years’ practical experience working in machine shops. Most of my experience is running CNC lathes and CNC mills. I also have worked with manual lathes and mills. I have manufactured parts from
