The difference between organic shape or form and geometric shape or form.Geometric shapes Are circles, rectangles, squares,and triangles that have clear edges by using tools to create them. Most geometric shapes are made by humans, though crystals are also considered to be geometric despite the fact that they are made in nature. Organic shapes are shapes with a natural look and a flowing and curving appearance. Organic shapes and forms are typically irregular or asymmetrical. Artists use organic shapes and geometric shapes in different ways when attempting to create a piece that looks natural, flowing, calming. Organic shapes are smooth, usually composed of curves, but they arent limited to shapes of animals or plants. For example, the aerodynamic shape of an airplane or a modern car is also organic, because its smooth and cant be composed from simple geometric shapes. Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder illustrates a story from Greek mythology. Icarus and his father Daedalus had been imprisoned on the island of Crete by its ruler, Minos. In order to escape, Daedalus fashioned two sets of wings from feathers and wax. As father and son flew away from their prison, Icarus became overly exuberant. Although his father had warned him not to, Icarus, recklessly enjoying his new wings, flew too high and close to the sun. The wax in his wings melted, and he fell to his death in the sea below. In Bruegel’s version of this story our attention is drawn to the figure in the ground, plowing his field, unaware of the tragedy.
Explain the 3 properties and color schemes. The three properties of color are Hue, Value, Intensity. Hue: Is the color in purest form. Hue refers to the color itself. Each different hue is a different reflection of light. There are seven hues: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. When the light occurs it is reflected back to the eye, and black light occurs when no light is reflected to your eye. Value: The shades and tints of a color. Value refers to the lightness or darkness of a certain area. Value can be used for emphasis. Variations in value are used to create a focal point for the design of a picture. A light figure on a dark background would be recognized as the center of attention, mostly for a dark figure on a white background. Intensity: the color formed when mixing 1 color with the color opposite of it on the color wheel. Intensity refers to the brightness of a color. A color is complete when not mixed with black or white. Although, the color can be changed by making it duller or more neutral by adding gray to the color. The color scheme is the matching or complementing color set, like walls being light blue, trim baby blue.Name the 6 different types of analysis. Be able to discuss one of them.Description, Analysis, Interpretation, Judging, Analysis = determining what the features suggest and deciding why the artist used such features to convey specific ideas. The analysis would think of how did the artist do it. The various elements that would include the analysis would be, determination of subject matter through naming like a historic event. Selection of whether line, shape, color, texture is being used. The design can be discussed on how elements or structural can contribute to appearance of an image. The of use of light and role of color warm or cool colors can help analyze the features.
