Intro to BiologyWhile some of you I have had the pleasure of working with, there are still many whom I have not had the opportunity to meet. For those of you who I have not met, I am from Maryland where I work as a research analyst for a commercial real estate information company by the name of Costar Group. Presently I do not fulfill the role as a manager, however I do have managerial experience in the retail industry. Prior to my real estate career I worked as a personal stylist for Nordstrom overseeing multiple women’s apparel departments. Working and school really takes up the majority of my time, however when I do have free time I spend it with my family and loved ones,
One thing I have noticed within the department I work is that my manager lacks motivation amongst our team. She is the sweetest person you could ever meet and is far from a micromanager. She wants us to succeed and always says team we need to get out the bottom without excuses, but no one takes her serious because they know she isn’t really going to hound them about there numbers.
One of my goals within this course is to implement a motivating technique or program that can increase performance within our department and suggest it to my manager. By March I would like to have a plan to present to my manager outlining ways to increase our performance through motivation. The goal is to not only get of the bottom 30 percent but to move to top 30. We are beginning the 1st quarter now and are presently working on market reports. These reports take up the majority of our time so my company isn’t expecting strong numbers. I figure the beginning of second quarter we will have a fresh start, which would be ideal for such techniques to begin. We have weekly metrics and daily numbers that we have access to in order to see our progress. Each week we need to analyze our performance to see if we are moving up in rank. When our numbers increase we know we are on the
3-Penny-Penny to the top-penny ratio. The company seems to believe that growth is important for the market. This is not so. We can see we are on the top percent of the revenue. Now we are also seeing our numbers increase and the top tier ranks up. If we have less people, we may be more successful. In the short term we may be able to maintain our share even more, but we need to grow our stock. I plan on staying the course until I become a senior executive. At this time it seems like we need a manager. This may require me to have a few months of active programming experience. In order to maintain our rank to the top we need to have experienced managers who are on the top, top-quality team that is responsible for our own performance. Although the concept is that this is the “master plan,” even if I am managing the company we can be a long way off. This course consists of three days and we are now finishing our 1st quarter. What is “Plan?”
A plan is a checklist about how we plan to meet our needs or to improve our ability to meet our needs. The plan can refer to, “Let’s do the right thing, let’s get on with it so that all employees can be happy.”, “Work in a way that feels right to all employees.”, “Work in a way that feels like a positive, team oriented way (not only to the company but to other individuals)”, “Work at an effective level to get back to where we need to be at a given time in our business career.” and so on. The team should be able to meet this checklist by themselves so that they can keep in touch with each other and figure out which of the three pillars they need to focus on. Most of us understand and get a strong sense of satisfaction from working with a plan. We should also have these two pillars set with each other when dealing with employees—the team, the group and the company. The plan should also be a list that we will be posting at a minimum. The plan is just that. The team should be able to know what they need to get on with moving down the pyramid and see what they can improve for the business. We have a process where our plan is posted, once every two week periods. We should be able to share our ideas and work towards what we think is best and what needs to be improved. What is Plan?
A group plan is a plan that has goals and goals that must be met. Each of our managers is required to fulfill this function. Each manager must be accountable for all employee decisions and also for his/her role within the group. The goal should be to maintain the status quo of management. All employees need to be kept at the same level and that is the group plan. Some managers want to share personal information and a project plan so that everyone who knows their team and team management skills are able to collaborate without being locked to it. We have a system of teams that is also a process that managers and management leaders do at different levels. We need to have them meet goals and goals that the managers or managers have assigned them by their organizational work. This process is called management.
Let’s start with our
