In the commercial titled Bob’s House, it was very distinct that the main characters were supposed to be deaf. It was actually a very funny commercial, and the humor was most likely acceptable to everyone.
The humor was acceptable for many reasons. One was because the scene wasn’t necessarily making fun of them because they couldn’t hear, but was showing not being able to hear the horn and other annoying noises as an advantage. Also, nobody was making fun of the characters, and sometimes it’s ok to make fun of your self. And lastly, by honking their horn to single out Bob, it showed a very clever way of finding his house quickly which wouldn’t have worked for anyone that can hear.
The two men in the car showed how witty you can still be even if you are deaf, as well as how fast they were able to communicate with one another, and how quick they were able to solve a problem even without one of their main senses. At the end of the commercial when the neighbors were outside looking at Bob and the gang, Bob said sorry and one lady who instantly understood their actions and accepted them.
I think that there should be more commercials like these that show how smart, witty, and funny people can be with disabilities. I think that it helps people to understand that they are just like people without disabilities, and find brainy ways to get through every day life in society which sometimes isn’t specifically designed for them. This commercial made me laugh, so I would love to see what they come up with next.
