Talent is cited as one of the top business challenges and a recent survey conducted by global consultancy Grant Thornton) finds 62 per cent of Malaysian firms have difficulty finding skilled workers, and 48 per cent identify lack of talent as a constraint for future growth. It warned that the demand for skilled talent is only set to increase further: across all National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs), most firms already demand basic Mathematics and communication skills, even for mid-tier positions.” A rising number of young adults in Malaysia lack the skills that employers need, reflecting a worrying disconnect that is leading to unemployability issues in the country. Professional jobs usually involve skills that can be learned by the majority of people. Talent, on the other hand, tends to be irrelevant. Malaysia graduates also lack of skill experiences. Employer does not believe in fresh graduate’s ability. Fresh graduates have no experiences. The employer nowadays requires graduates to have some work experiences in order to requirement of qualified.

Companies overwhelmingly agree that the content and quality of local university education do not adequately prepare students for the workforce while a weak basic education is also to be blamed for producing graduates with adequate soft skills. Students are plugged in and don’t understand that he strongest relationship are formed in person, not online. Constantly students always looking down at their iPhones and iPad’s instead of at people’s faces and it’s a missed opportunity. Soft skills are personal attributes that enhance an individuals interactions, career prospects and job performance. Many students are not learning the skills that they will need to face a rapidly changing, global workplace. Technical skills have little value if students have poor soft skills. No matter how good you think you are you will not get the marks you feel you deserve if can’t communicate well with colleagues or clients. In fact, the perception might be that you are

losing your competitive edge.

This is not a criticism of the school or students. Many times teachers are trying to get students to understand, as they did with their class at my high school.
