I think this item is necessary because sometimes people do forget that another individuals ethics are not necessarily their own. There needs to be a neutral relationship between law and how a staff member views them. Laws are put in place to protect and help mankind and while not always, the majority of those with good ethics are law abiding citizens. The two are related by one doing what is right.
While most organizations receive funding through government grants or individual donations, they are looked at closely by both the government and community. A community service worker represents the organization they are working for and any decision made that is unethical or against the law jeopardizes any future funding for that organization.
Board members, staff, and volunteers that are employed by a community service organization need to demonstrate the highest moral integrity and leadership both in their work on behalf of the organization and their private lives (Manning., 2003). People look to community service organizations for help in their own lives and are entrusted with both personal and private information. If a member of that organization is engaging in activities that break the law, people question whether they can trust the organization.
The community service workers job is to promote the well-being of his or her client. If there is ever a reason to apply a particular law the community service worker must abide by it and mold it to fit their clients personal situation.
