Moving ContractEssay Preview: Moving ContractReport this essayIn our society, we are constantly encountered with contracts when conducting any sort of business transaction. A contract is a legal binding agreement between customers and businesses created to ensure that the rights of each party involved is protected in any legal matters. There are two forms of contracts; it can either be in written format or oral agreement. The type of contract used depends on the situation. A written contract is more beneficial to both parties involved. In the case of a lawsuit, the written contract can help to mediate the dispute because the terms of both the customer and the business would be detailed in it. The most recent contract that I have taken part of is a military contract which outlines my Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move from Los Angeles, California to Fort Lewis, Washington.
During the month of November 2010, I received my permanent change of duty station orders from California to Washington. In this situation, I was required to decide whether to conduct the move myself or have the military move my household goods. Since my husband is currently deployed to the Middle East, it was best for me to have the military coordinator process my move request. The military coordinator contracted my household goods to Covan Work-Wide Moving, Inc. Covan Inc. provides a full range of services to their customers. The company mission statement is “to be the leading provider of worldwide transportation services and committed to total quality, 100% customer satisfaction, profit and growth.”
Once the contract was approved through the Department of Defense, representatives from Covan Inc. personally guided me through the moving process. They provided an employee to come to my home and conduct a full inventory of my household goods to ensure that they bring the necessary equipment and trucks during the actual move. Once the inventory was completed, the representative reviewed the contract with me and explained that a crew will pack, unpack, disassemble, assemble, pick-up, and deliver my household goods accordingly.
As promised, the crew came by to pack all the household goods. I had recently purchased a brand new bed and the crew was supposed to assemble it and ensure that all the parts are accountable. Upon arrival to my new residence in Washington, I coordinated with the moving company to deliver my household goods. The company accepted my request, delivered and assembled my household goods according to the contract. During the assembly process of my bed, they realized that there were small parts missing to complete the bed. Besides this minor incident, the company “executed all of the promised terms and conditions of the contract,” (Liuzzo A. Bonnice J., 2010, pg 181). One of the representatives told me that the packing crew should have assembled the bed prior to loading it onto the truck. He also informed me that tiny parts such as bolts and screws should
n a stand attached to the truck to make way for the carpenter. I went along with him and proceeded to pull up a table of metal, as they would before making the construction of a bed in Washington.
This is quite typical of construction. Once that is complete, the concrete blocks can be transported to the local port to be reused.
The house was built in accordance with the contract without the reinforced concrete blocks and did not have a frame or frame of concrete or cement that could be made readily by moving the reinforced concrete blocks to trucks.
