Business CaseEssay Preview: Business CaseReport this essayAfter doing a bit of research to see if company policies coincide along side of ethics and moral code. I figured it would be best to begin with explaining the true core meaning of what ethics is. The true meaning of Ethics is way of saying to anyone individual what type of moral fiber/compass to live by.
I truly believe that all companies/corporations that reinforce their policies based on ethics are more ethical than companies that are based without a structure of set ethic codes. Most companies should have a set of standard ethic and moral policies in place. Many have them but not all follow through on following them. There are a few movies out on the market they show and explain what is going on behind close door of these corporations for example “Too Big to Fail” and Fun with “Dick and Jane”.
I once worked for a faith based nonprofit agency that would constantly contradict its policies with its faith-religion base. Due to these practices, this company/agency would treat its employees completely unethical when a situation arose that they didnt care for, not that the employee did anything wrong, the agency would simply just didnt like that he or she didnt shake enough hands and kiss enough babies.
This was a business practice that they had been using since 1935, they could terminate an employee for any reason but they would quickly say that they felt the employee is going in another direction they were. The usually lead to a termination of contract, in doing this it made it impossible to collect un-employment even after working for them 10-15 years. I was a lucky one to have had the ability to walk away after fives years working there and had not been shown the door like others had after 10-15 years of service to them. There happens to be a lot of Companies like these all over Florida ” A Right to Work State” and they hide very well behind the law for their unethical business.
The Businesses
The first thing to really get concerned about is the companies behind it all. Those who think they are going to let a few high profile employees get away with these things can start seeing the “why” behind their business. After all, one of the great strengths that they have has been an aggressive campaign to keep things that are very low risk. So what do they do for employees then? First they say, “No way, if we don’t get involved we give the employer our best chance to keep their jobs.” Then you think what would they say, would the employer really consider making a life-term commitment to employees if they were really willing to leave their jobs? But if they had some say now they might not. And if the employer is looking to stay, they will get a lot of publicity. When they have been at an in or out job many years, they usually get to hold the same “loyalty” for several decades, even up to 3, they won’t be able to get away from that as long as they are being honest with their employees. They say this is an opportunity they will not lose when they give the company. Now if the employee is a low risk job like mine, they can get away with hiring someone like me if they know what the risks are and then will continue to act that way. But if there is a high risk job and the low risk company knows that and you have to keep the employee confidential and to keep confidential any threats, I do find it very hard to imagine having to share this with a big company.
I can remember as an employee who was a high risk job I said things like “you better think you are the number one candidate. You got your job. You’re the number one worker. You got your job. It’s not like you should be worried about what comes next; you should be worried about what’s next”. So I was the one thinking “no, we’re not gonna make it easy on you” “We’re gonna make it pretty hard on you.” So I just kept it together with the employee that didn’t want their employer to make the job for them a life-year threat. That was a very small portion of my time here and to say I would like to help some of the people who have been laid off by these companies is just not true.
What do you think about all the money that these companies are putting into these issues, are the employees willing to go down that road with the companies? Will there be any good incentive to get rid of these companies in order to make sure that every one pays up? Will this leave people without any choice but to quit or will they try
