Creative Thinking Case Review
Throughout the learning process of the management track, there are a lot of lessons to be taken into consideration to make a company run smoothly. Whether management is dealing with policy and procedures, finances, benefits, outsourcing, accounting, are just a few of the tools that management has to decide with. The intended discussion about a couple of things that management deals with and that is whether or not companies should outsource certain items from their production and how understanding money and financial institutions are important.
Chapter three creative thinking case talks about moving production overseas as well as a talking about the code of ethics within a company. More companies who make any type of machinery, cars, planes, and even construction needs to consider what parts can they get from somewhere else that will be cheaper and more effective so employees can have these items on hand when needed instead of adding more work to current employees and maybe even paying them overtime. By bringing work overseas, companies are saving money and do not have to worry about the parts being made and focus on their major parts and their own company procedures. Most of the time, companies can get certain items made at a more cost effective place that makes these parts and have them shipped over. During the creative thinking case about Timbuk2s company, Dwight wanted to expand the companys line to more but wanted to keep costs down. Any company that uses overseas production has to look at how the employees over on the other utilized country are being treated. Management wants to be fair and pay for their services but the reason they are going overseas, to save money. This will allow for current employees to get paid the same, if not more, and not have to do extra work. They want to go over to the other country regularly to make sure working conditions are up to code and that employees are being treated fairly. It would be very unpleasant to a company to get criticized publicly for how they are treating others in these countries. Also, these companies should look at the country they are going to be using and learn their culture. You wan to be respectful to the people around you and their way of life. By taking your business to other countries, companies are helping out the welfare of the respective country as well. This work benefits the company for receiving goods for cheap and helping another country to development and to grow in a positive way. Everyone wants to be treated fairly and you do not want to treat anyone unfairly so that the company cannot get in trouble for their actions. A company also wants to see how they best suit their employees as well as they want to keep employees happy, and keep their employees loving what they do and keeping a safe environment for all. Every company wants to make sure that the companies financial records are in order. Management and shareholders need to make sure the company is in good standing before going overseas. When employees are taken care of, productivity goes up and the company makes more money. Also, every company that deals with the public wants to have a positive awareness to society. Your product needs to be not only cost effective and a necessity to the public, but you want to have a product that will be safe for the client and to the environment. If you look at the creative thinking case at the end of chapter 3, you will see that Dwights idea to grow his company but needed a location that would support this product. Dwight did not want his employees to work a consistent amount of overtime because then work efficiency would start decreasing, morale would start being negative and then by the time you know it, and eventually you would have unhappy employees. Also, when you treat employees well, the companies production increases and everyone makes more money. He was able to expand his line to see what the local needs were and if he was able to meet them in San Francisco California. Dwight wanted to be careful about the growth of the company, and to make sure he was still going to be a productive and positive influence in his community. He was able to keep his own code of ethics within the company as well as his social responsibilities to the community he was serving. Dwight was able to give the community a product with a reasonable price. His promises to ethical working conditions and fair wages to all work environments was a great way for Dwight to keep
