BiologyWhat is this major? Biology is the study of all living organisms-their structures, their functions, their genetics, and all processes that make up living things. There are many fields within this major, including biochemistry, botany, cellular biology, molecular biology, ecology, and genetics. Biochemistry is about the matter that makes up an organism, cellular biology is the study of cells, and molecular biology is about macromolecules, like proteins, and how they function. Since biology is such a vast subject of study, many of these fields overlap. For example, a person cannot study cellular biology without any knowledge of molecular biology or biochemistry. Why am I interested? I am interested in Biology because I have loved science for a long time and have always been fascinated by it. I like to get to know of all the different things that are on our planet that I didn’t even know existed and how different organisms function. I have been pretty good at both science and math, which is quite crucial in this major. I am also interested in majoring in biology because it is a great preparatory course for admission into medical. I want to become some sort of doctor in the future, which also means that I have to go to a medical school after college. Although most medical schools don’t mind what you major in as long as some requirements are met, they like seeing people who have a biology background as it will be very useful.Careers that stem from this major:Biochemists: Biochemists study the chemical structures of living things, such as metabolism, growth, and heredity. Biochemists usually work with biotechnology, which is equipment that is specialized for its function.Average Pay: $73,950 per yearBiological Technician: A biological technician uses lab skills learned through biology to create studies and produce results based on the studies. Average Pay: $50,193 per yearMedical and Health Services Manager: Medical and health services managers usually hire, supervise, or assess medical/health professionals. They are supposed to make sure that everything is going right and that anyone being hired meets the credential requirements.Average Pay: $94,500 per yearComputer ScienceWhat is this major? Computer science is the study of creating systems or programs through programming, operating different systems, and software design. This major involves the study of algorithms, or sets of rules that are to be followed by a computer, the components inside a computer, and different programming languages that computers follow. Once a program is made, hours are usually spent just to test and debug, or get rid of any mistakes, on it. This major is also concerned with interaction between humans and technology, or artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is the science of imitating human intelligence in computers. This can allow a computer to do many things, like visually understand something, such as an image.
Why am I interested? I am interested in Computer Science because of how versatile it is. There are many things in computer science that you have to learn while studying it in college, and it gives you a chance to find what you really like out of all of those things. I am also interested in majoring in computer science because I have worked with computers since I was young, know a lot about them, and enjoy using them. I think that it would be kind of fun to able to create programs and see my work come to life on computers. Also, I have seen that people with a major in computer science make a lot of money in their careers because there is a high demand for this major.Careers that stem from this major:Software Engineer: Software engineers are fully in charge of creating and implementing a new software based on the needs of their customer(s).Average Pay: $100,690 per yearDatabase Administrator: A database administrator tests and run computer databases, correct any mistakes in the database, and make sure there is proper security on the database to protect it.Average Pay: $81,710 per yearBusiness Intelligence Analyst: Business intelligence analysts analyze market strategies by collecting data from public reports, and create data on plans of action for a company.Average Pay: $83,410 per yearBusiness Administration What is this major? Business administration is all about preparing students within the major to plan, direct, organize, and regulate the functions of an organization or business. This major can be broken down into six categories: economics, human resources, marketing, management, information systems, and accounting. Economics teaches students how to maximize money in a business and how to reduce losses. Human resources is about hiring the right type of workers and managing them efficiently. Marketing is basically about how to sell products or services efficiently, and management is also about creating effective processes in a business. Information systems is about the data of business stored in computer or other technology, and accounting is basically recording transactions of the company.
