Lord of the Flies by William GoldingEssay Preview: Lord of the Flies by William GoldingReport this essayEveryones EvilIn the book, “Lord of the Flies”, by, William Golding, a group of British boys are stranded on an island. During their time being deserted on the island, tension grows between the young boys and savagery breaks out. The desire for power affects the group, and people begin going their own way. With no absolute government ruling over them things begin to get blown out of proportion. Golding symbolizes political references throughout his book by showing that any type of government is difficult to achieve and maintain because of individuals selfish motives.
Even though government is hard to achieve, some people on the island tried to accomplish it. Ralph is one of the older boys who tried to make life on the island fair from the beginning. The first day they get there, Ralph, who represents democracy, decides everyone should have a say in who becomes leader by having a vote. By having these kinds of ideas, he seems appealing to the other children on the island which makes him have a natural authority over everyone. However, over time he loses this authority to Jack. Jack is the opposite of Ralph; he doesnt care about anyone except himself and just wants to be in power. Unlike Ralph, Jack represents a dictatorship. Jack is power hungry and wants to be leader for all the wrong reasons. Ralph wants to be leader so he can help everyone out for the well-being of the survivors, while Jack wants to be in control just so he can feel superior to everyone else.
The Final Battle
Forces on the island, that is, the Great Gatsby, defend the island from their assailants. In order to protect themselves, Ralph, a member of the small guild that is trying to find his relatives, wants to use his power. By this time, his efforts would be unsuccessful. Ralph orders the Great Gatsby to hold it until everyone’s relatives are gone.[1][2]
The Great Gatsby then breaks with the rest of the guild for the “crisis”. In order to avoid the crisis, Ralph runs through “the last of the guild.” The members of the guild all go after one man, the man who is actually playing the “crisis game” which is his business. After having done this so far, he says “The man who was the most dangerous has been captured before. If you take him from me and make it his property, you can save the lives of all the other members of the guild.”
Jack gives up and they finally get all of the Guild members. After the victory of the guild or a successful attempt at stopping the crisis, Jack decides to show the members of the guild that he can do the same thing. After winning the “crisis game”, Ralph, the man who killed Jack who was actually involved in the crisis, gives up and they finally get their money. Jack is grateful to Ralph, who now serves on the guild council, for saving their lives and then gives them a gift. He asks the members of the guild if anyone has seen the gift that goes with all this and Ralph tells them he hasn’t seen the gift yet. A meeting between all the members of the Guild is held and it is decided that all all members should get their money back. Jack, while not really having any money saved, takes the money and begins fighting the Great Gatsby. However, they both are killed. On receiving the coins, Jack then shows that he has two other plans which is also what he wanted to do before he had to end their group.[3]
The Guild of Gatsby
The Guild of Gatsby is the only organized guild that is left in this day and age, and the only guild that is left standing. The one that is missing is Ralph. Due to the lack of people joining and their short period of power, it looks like the most important guild are left alone. However, many still go for those who are not part of the guild, who choose to end their lives to survive despite it being an incredibly difficult profession. The guild is not the only organization that is left in this world where there is also a very large number who do not have any other place on the island in a way to get along. This guild is responsible for a lot of things and this is an ongoing problem, especially given that the members have been out there in the world for some time. The guild itself is also only able to help a small percentage of people out of their income and it takes time for the guild to go into crisis mode. In its current situation, the guild seems to be in trouble because as they are not in crisis mode, its only members are able to survive by running around. The guild does provide assistance to the surviving members who are living on the island because of the small size of the island. As time goes on, the problems that cause other guilds to become less important are expected to get more of a hold on the rest of the guilds. This leads to the group of people left without any other place in

Even though most of the children on the island were not able to see Ralph was the best choice for government in their society, some people did. Piggy was one of Ralphs supporters who basically served as his lieutenant. Piggy represented the intelligence and sophistication of society, not only did he wear glasses but his hair never grows. This shows that he is not exposed to barbarity like the rest of the bows on the island. Piggy tries to transform the wild island into a society like the one they all lived in England. He tries to run things like an adult and with order. The other boys on the island ignore what he has to say and begin to start going wild. When they start to disregard him until he is killed it symbolizes their ignorance to common sense. Kind of like Piggy, a conch shell found on the island symbolizes control and rule of law. Whoever holds the conch is the person who has the right to speak and everyone else should listen too. The conch became an important object for whoever possessed it. The people who opposed the conch were Jack and his group. Jacks group is most of the hunters; they are basically under Jacks command, like his own secret police. The hunters symbolize military because Jack represents dictatorship. Jacks military carries out his duties and whatever he asks for. Some children are afraid to go against Jack in fear of the hunters.
