Course Name:MGMT 126 Introduction to Conflict managementSection:SB01(1)Assignment:Conflict Management at TKC ConsultingGroup Case StudySynopsis of the Case StudyThis case study shows how executives who hold the power in an organization cause disorder in a work place due to interpersonal conflict. Rao and Naik are two senior executives at TKC Consulting in India, whose actions negatively affected the organization. The strained relationship between Rao and Naik began over a misunderstanding when Naik failed to respond to Rao’s request to approve an employee’s transfer from Tamil Nadu region to Karnataka region. Also Rao’s feeling that Naik was not able to manage the responsibilities that came with being promoted to the post of country head, a promotion both he and Naik were up for. As a result of the rivalry between of Rao and Naik there was misunderstanding in the organization and their actions negatively affected an innocent subordinate Aman. The chairman of the company understood that he could not point out the actions of Rao and Naik for fear that it negatively affects the other employees in the organization. But he also knew that failure to address the situation, it would cause more conflict within the organization. How is the conflict being experienced? (Cognitive, emotional, behavioral)The conflict in this case study has been shown to be experienced as a behavioral type. Between Rao and Naik, they have both committed several actions empowering the inner conflict. Abusing the rights of Aman to further their chance on the promotion of country head. Rao especially has exercised power in the form of using their regional product head. The actions were not performed from physical force, nor harsh words, but by the sleaziness of Rao’s ruthless movements. The sole purpose of these engagements were to get either Rao’s or Naik’s needs met. Rao was sneaky and relentless, but has unfortunately left Aman listless. We can also see that there has been an emotional experience resulting from this situation. When Rao transferred Aman, he didn’t give him an exact reason why he was being relocated. Aman was feeling singled out and given an unfair performance review. Aman began to suffer emotional trauma as he felt he was being selectively targeted and this conflict began to impact his performance on the job as well as his happiness at home. The final way this conflict is being experienced is cognitively. A good example of this is one of the first conflict between Rao and Naik. The issue began when Naik failed to respond to a request submitted by Rao for an employee transfer. Rao found it insulting that Naik couldn’t bother to respond although that is not what Naik had intended. Naik was assumedly sidetracked during his response to the transfer request and the situation was wrongfully interpreted by Rao.
