When one speaks of academic integrity you must bring up plagiarism. Plagiarism can sometimes and more often then not fill our schools and workplace. It is no different in politics where the fast paced environment can make those who claim they are representing or helping an individual, contribute to tarnishing ones reputation. The incidents described in the news story show a common trait when one plagiarizes; being pressed for time. In each excerpt I can guarantee that if each Tory staffer had the time of day to put an original speech together, there would be less plagiarism in politics. However, regardless of what grade your in, or what “status” you hold, the same rules that apply to students in a classroom work the same out in the real world. The outcomes of these specific examples seemed appropriate. One conservative party member resigned, and whether or whether not the other members did the public and opposing parties were at least apologized to and made aware of the situation.

Some may ask, “why care if someone else plagiarizes?” or say, “just worry about your own work and not anyone elses.” Well, the same doesnt hold true in the real world. Youre not going to be given “As,” and “Bs,” on assignments. You wont be worrying about maintaining a good GPA to hold onto a job. Competition for jobs, especially in the todays market, is high and fierce. This is why all students should care about institutional academic integrity. It acts as a filter and ensures that the best and most qualified person(s) are the ones that get the job.
