Leadership Lessons
Business management is not just a science but is an on-going process of discovery and learning. As an individual and as an organization one always needs to be self-aware and self-critical, in this way we can ensure that lessons are learnt and progress is made.
There are continuous new trends evolving that need to be taken into account and that need to be adopted in order to ensure that we are effective individuals, managers, leaders and organizations. There are many issues facing the modern day manager/leader as the world gets more international and competition gets fiercer, the rise of the China and the other BRICs as well as the woman workforce and the ecological environmental factors. These are all items that need to be taken into consideration when planning how to lead and what concerns the organizations and the employees may have. Also as the leader of an organization one needs to make the shareholders and stakeholders aware of these factors as they influence your strategy and decisions.
One cannot only learn from theory, one especially learns by doing and experience.
It is very important that the board of directors functions as a team, and that we share the same vision, mission and values to achieve our objectives. Everyone’s voice is equally valuable and will help the team achieve the best possible outcomes and results. Even if we have one Chairman (myself) it is important that we have a shared leadership, a sense of purpose and work as a collective.
The biggest most important part of a working relationship is trust, without trust you cannot build and achieve anything. There needs to be healthy conflict and discussions to ensure the best possible course of action is chosen and a true commitment, accountability and ownership of the issues that the board is faced with. This will help us to achieve progress but more importantly achieve results. External influences, such as PEST, are vastly important
