Swot Analysis for MicrosoftEssay title: Swot Analysis for MicrosoftIntroduction and Summary of Company History and Background InformationMicrosoft over the past 27 years has positioned itself as the arterial system of almost all computers rolled into use across the world. Albeit with no competition worth the name to challenge its existence leave alone on technology advancements, the company has still managed to keep pace with both felt and perceived needs of its customers and its niche remains robust thus far. Nevertheless disturbing winds have begun to blow. Its corporate governance is under the microscope and the world is watching as to how Microsoft is bracing itself for the challenges posed both by competition (however innocuous it may be at present) and technology proliferation.
The Company and the Future of the Microsoft “Innovation”
With little and certainly no tangible evidence of success, or any apparent “new” software product on the horizon, the future is uncertain.
The Company has a long history of moving forward with a plan B strategy and an ambitious program to deliver on the goals set in the company’s recent “Outlook and Presentation” slides presented at this year’s I/O conference. That document clearly shows and articulates Microsoft is positioning itself as an independent technology company and its strategy to deliver software services is clearly a reflection of this direction as well.
The recent statements made by Microsoft is another indication of these efforts and the company’s continuing belief that the Microsoft vision will have a significant impact. Microsoft is working on several new projects and are in the process of doing many more. One of them, “Innovation for the Microsoft Solution and Services Business,” is a new series of software projects specifically geared to helping people create and use new technologies through a variety of different channels including the Microsoft Azure business and the Microsoft Azure cloud and services market. Some of the project documents listed above are examples of work done on the “Microsoft Azure-based Service, Software, & Technologies Platforms for the Microsoft Service Enterprise Infrastructure Exchange Server for Enterprise Server,” which is Microsoft’s answer to the Azure Web Access service.
One interesting project, “Microsoft Azure-based Service and Services Platforms for the Microsoft Service Enterprise Infrastructure Exchange Server for Business,” showcases that Microsoft is also working with Microsoft in the same vein as it did with the “Innovation” slides, and its plan is to launch a “New Start, New Page Start, New Platform Start, and New Service Start” service in 2015 which would become a full service in 2016. Microsoft’s long term vision is to have an “Innovation-enabled Business Service Application Service for Microsoft Enterprise Servers that provides a Microsoft Azure client-side to a broader audience of Windows Server customers and enterprises on the Azure platform and a Microsoft Azure Service Container as part of a broader Microsoft Enterprise Application Service for Enterprise Servers service that integrates Windows Azure Client and Azure Container with Windows Server as a component of a Microsoft Cloud Service Management Platform or a related service provider to increase the likelihood and power of an Internet of Value or similar value to a client-side Microsoft Service Controller.”
So for now Microsoft is using two key components of an open platform as a whole: their “Innovation for the Microsoft Solution” model as well as some of that technology. If the plans continue at this point Microsoft has a significant open platform and it looks to be adding to its open enterprise software base by building upon its successful work with Microsoft and leveraging some of that platform’s unique capabilities through the services offered in the current Outlook and web experience while building upon the strengths and capabilities provided by its open platform.
For Microsoft the “Innovation for the Microsoft Solution” model may not include the ability to provide content-driven products that can be integrated with the open platform with the Microsoft Azure Cloud Service Management Platform. It is possible that Microsoft could choose to deploy the “Innovation Cloud-based Solution Solution Services of the DSA (Data & Information Services)
