Cable operators
The majority believe that in order to provide consumers with cheaper, and effective, products, Cable operators are required to pay their subscribers a fee of 3.5% off a fixed amount of goods or service when they upgrade from a fixed-rate service to a low-level service such as AT&T Wireless or T-Mobile. As some of you may know, Cingular is already offering the T-Mobile unlimited data plans, which is only available for US carriers and only in the US through its Cingular-Plus service-card.
Cingular is one of the only cable operators in the United States that allows users to choose their own pricing (though it is likely that the price for the same service will go up after a short period of time). In terms of the cost of Cingular customers, we think that the 3.5% difference will be in comparison to the $1.00 cost of a customer getting a free T-Mobile CINGULAR+ service. After looking at all of this information, we have concluded that the higher the service price, the less significant the difference between Cingular and its competitors.
Cingular charges approximately $9 per month for T-Mobile CINGULAR+ (excluding any cost associated with upgrading to lower-cost plans such as T-Mobile T-Mobile GO); when we factor in the actual cost of upgrading, Cingular charges approximately half of what T-Mobile charges for such plans.
