Costco’s Mission Statement for Goodness of MissionCostco’s mission statement for goodness of missionA goodness of mission depends on all three components of business statements, the mission being well balanced between narrow and broad, the vision being graphic, directional, focused, flexible, feasible, and easy to communicate, and the philosophy has to be inspiring while also showing the values and beliefs of the organization. The extended mission statement that was sent to the shareholders stated Costco’s desire to bring value to the customers with low pricing and quality goods, excellent customer service, adhering to a strict ethics code that is based around treating all involved with the company well, and ending with responsibility towards corporate citizens and the environment. I believe Costco showed many of these very well in its mission statement, but may have lacked on a couple areas that could have been explained differently.

Costco also delivers the most quality products, especially the quality that customers are willing to pay, on a timely, affordable basis, all in a more accessible and accessible fashion that is easy for our customers to find, the only way for us to succeed better, more easily and more quickly. Costco believes, for that reason alone, that its mission statement is a great tool for helping us grow and deliver better value to our shareholders and the broader communities that depend on the business.”
