Important Information
Class content
Use the book as a guide but donât rely on it. The book can be used to introduce the target language and then supplemented with creative speaking activities. The bookâs own activities are very rigid and not very enjoyable.
Lecturing
We are looking for teachers who can reduce their lecturing time and maximize studentsâ speaking time. If students are not familiar with a difficult grammar point or word, then try to introduce it as briefly as possible at first and add further explanations as the class progresses, rather than confusing students with a 10-minute explanation.
Corrections
Corrections are very important. When a student makes a mistake, correct them and have them repeat the whole sentence back to you. Teachers shouldnât be scared to interrupt students: they come to our academy to learn how to speak English correctly, and giving corrections is one way of helping them to improve their accuracy.
Pair work
Teachers should expect to speak for no more than 30% of the class; the students should be the focus of the class and should speak more than they listen. Pair work is a chance to use the newly-learnt grammar or phrase in an interesting, creative way, while the teacher observes and provides corrections.
For example, the âarticlesâ activity can be made much more exciting with pair work. Teachers need to think of a creative situation in which students can use the target language. This could be a trip to Africa (What will you need? What shall we take?) or a studentâs Christmas wish list (I want a ____ and an ____), etc. The more creative you are, the more engaged students will be.
For the business case study, students will need to be presented with a structured exercise. Simply saying âTell your partner which solution you like mostâ isnât structured enough
