This means there is likely to be different answers from different individuals depending on what they think is right. Most people might agree that if it is legal it must be ok. It was legal to own people at one time and do whatever you wanted with them. It was also legal to beat your wife as long as it was with a stick no thicker than your thumb. Laws have changed and helped shape society throughout the years. In the 1800’s, there was a moral responsibility from slave owners to do the right thing and treat people with equality. This was around the time that slavery ended. Many people might agree that since it was legal it must not be wrong. There are ethical matters that are not covered by law. Living in a free world means having certain obligations and responsibilities to do the right thing. People are all created equal and are afforded rights, especially when those people have committed no crime. There needs to be a tolerance for diversity. If someone believes something on the mere principles of not being judged that could be an explanation for unexamined moralities. People who say, “I believe what I believe and that’s all there is to it” may have a fear of being judged. The absence of discussion or unwillingness to resolve conflict is a nonpartisan approach and suggests intolerance.
