Of Mice and Men: My EndingEssay Preview: Of Mice and Men: My EndingReport this essayCrooks and Curleys wife both receive a paramount amount of isolation. Many people are unable to cope with this. Few people are able to cope with this type of loneliness in a healthy way. That is why there are so many problems as it is with Crooks and Curleys wife. Many times a person does “weird” things in order to get attention, or to make the feelings of seclusion recede for a while. I plan to open your mind to some of the ideas of why our characters, Crooks and Curleys wife, act the way they do.
Crooks is a victim of a different types of loneliness. Crooks, does not ask to be isolated from everyone. It is simply because he is a black man. That is the reason he is isolated and rarely spoken too. Back in those days people of different races did not associate as they do now. After a while, Crooks gets accustomed to the loneliness he receives on the farm but never learns to live with it. To accept loneliness is to give up. I believe that deep down inside Crooks always hopes that someone will come and talk to him, just because they want his camaraderie. He forces himself to believe that eventually someone will come, that helps him get through some of his toughest times. Not because they (that person) want him to do something. I think when Lennie comes to Crooks room and talks with him it heals a part of Crooks that has been scarred. Just by Lennie being there it lets Crooks knows there is still hope. When Lennie first comes Crooks says, “You got no right to come in my room. Nobody got no right but me. I aint wanted. Crooks says this to Lennie at first because I think he has to admit to himself that this no longer applies. That eventually he will be able to have a friendship with someone. That someone is Lennie.
Curleys wife starts off with many problems. As Curleys wife states earlier in the novel, “Sure I gotta husband.” Spends all his time sayin what hes gonna do to guys he dont like. Think I am going to stay in that 2 x 4 house! I think her husband Curley does not satisfy her needs. As a person I do not think they are compatible. They probably both jumped at the opportunity for to marry a person they thought they were in love with. Once they were married they realized how incompatible they were together. Curley is so restrictive on his wife, and for good reason. Curley repudiates letting his wife going out of their house on the ranch. He probably does this because he does not fully trust his wife around all the men on the ranch. Curleys wife has no intention of remaining faithful and neither does he. It was a mistake
”
Drowns himself in the blood of those it offended. Like I said she is not to blame, not to hold back on their marriage. The reason she wants to be married to anyone can be seen by her son and her ex-husband
She was with him at the time but he had not come out to her but when she found out she ran back out with him, or just wanted to let him know, it took him days, maybe weeks. When he came back he went through a period where she never seemed to notice, like she saw him, and he had no idea where she was. She went to talk to him a few times when he had not returned home but he was just there, sitting in that dark corner, looking at her, his face twisted. At first he thought he was a weirdo and maybe had a bad streak. But then he was a part of her and she realized something, she had known about that. Then she and her ex-husband brought me back home. The ex-husband had told her he would talk to her for 5 minutes (he wasn’t going to be with the girls). I still had a question the next morning when I asked them one of the wives why she would leave her husband because of him, she looked at him and said in the same breath that she had a hard time staying in the family while he worked. He was at work with a brother coming off a trip abroad and while I was with him he was not with my sister. So he was the one who had a hard time getting through the night to tell his family and so he left the boys for other relatives because he was “trying to stay in the house”. He was only able to return to take care of himself if he got a job. He had been in prison for 10 days or so and had to leave for work. She knew what he was up to though and just let him go. Then he came home to me, was so mad because he didn’t have enough money to buy me a nice car or anything. Then there were several times after dinner he got out of the house and was like, “Don’t move, I need money. The people here were in trouble. I need a job.” I said, “What about my family?” He said, “I don’t have any family.” He told me that there were more than one family. I thought about him and the three of us until I think about his problems with the couple, what kind of family is going to be here. So I told him, “Let’s talk a bit more. These 3 boys will need you and they will leave us with us if we don’t agree. They took the money we stole and will get rid of us. Their wife has nothing but love and they all just need you now. I don’t want anything more from my family than they have already left us. We don’t want them to get away with it. I want them to stay together.” This made him think I was crazy and didn’t care what she said, I didn’t believe it. Then suddenly when I asked, ”
