Requirements Gathering
Purpose
The purpose of the requirements gathering process is to ensure that the customers business requirements are identified and documented. This will help to ensure that the project will provide all the functionality necessary for the customer to perform all aspects of their day-to-day duties.
Fact Finding
In order to achieve the goal of providing an all inclusive, functional system for the customer, we must gather all the facts we can from the customers. While there are many fact-finding techniques, we will focus primarily on the technique of interviewing. Interviewing begins with a series of questions that will help in carrying out the fact-finding mission. The five most familiar questions in the fact-finding process provide answers to the following; who, what, where, when, and how.
The “who” of this project will be those individuals identified at each location that have day-to-day contact with the current system. Typically, these will include the Human Resource (HR) manager, Payroll Manager, and some shift managers. We will determine if the current user base is sufficient, or if there are others that could perform some duties more efficiently.
What
The “what”, will entail establishing what the duties are that are carried out by the HR and payroll managers, on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, it will be vital to determine the reasons why they are performing these duties, in the current manner. We will determine what the current processes are for transferring the plants time and attendance data to the corporate HR and Payroll departments.
Where
The “where” will require us to determine the location of where the duties are performed currently, and to also determine if these locations will need to be changed. When there is more than one location within a single business unit, would it be more efficient to consolidate
