Rainsford was a big hunter and never really feared animals or anything when he hunts.
When the story states, ” spurred on by the sharp rowels of something very like panic,” you can see that rainsford is finally scared of something. Hes starting to panic which is new to him because hes never been hunted so now he knows how the animals feel. Therefore, if rainsford is that scared then the animals are terrified.
We also see that people should not hunt for sport when the story states, “Rainsford knew the full meaning of terror.” Animals must be frightened ten times of what rainsford is when there being hunted. Maybe now that rainsford knows terror he wont hunt any more. Rainsford now knows how the animals feel.
That is why people should not hunt for a sport. millions of animals would be saved if people would stop hunting. In the end Rainsford ends up learning that hunting isnt that great. There are plenty of other sports to do besides hunt .
